Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), is a seriously debilitating, life-threatening, and life-shortening inherited disease that affects red blood cells. The number of individuals affected by SCD is ~2,000 in Massachusetts, ~100,000 in the United States, and ~8 million worldwide, making it the most prevalent genetic disease in the world. I am walking for the Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association this year because the money raised will allow them to continue their much-needed support and advocacy work for the patients and families living with SCD in New England.
